Skill Development and Capacity Building
Why Soft Skills Are Just as Important as Hard Skills for Today’s Youth
Just like the concluded women empowerment initiative that was held in Lagos, Nigeria, OROL had the chance to infuse into 100 women both skills of a lifetime that could alleviate poverty and help women have higher self-esteem in the society.

In today’s fast-changing world, young people need more than just technical know-how to thrive. While hard skills—such as coding, financial literacy, or engineering—equip youth with the knowledge required for specific jobs, soft skills are the key to unlocking long-term success and adaptability in both professional and personal spheres. Here’s why soft skills are just as critical as hard skills for today’s youth.
1. Enhancing Employability and Career Growth
Many employers today prioritize hiring individuals with strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Research shows that companies are more likely to hire and promote employees with these interpersonal skills.
2. Personal Growth
Soft skills such as time management, problem-solving, and emotional regulation contribute to personal development. Youth with these abilities can overcome setbacks, stay motivated, and continue striving toward their goals.
3. Bridging the Gap Between Cultures and Communities
In an increasingly globalized world, cultural awareness, empathy, and teamwork are essential. Youth must be able to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds, especially in multicultural environments.
Investing in both hard and soft skills ensures that today’s youth are not only employable but also capable of becoming future leaders and change-makers.

In a world where human connection and adaptability matter more than ever, soft skills will always remain a crucial part of youth empowerment.
At OROL, we empower young folks to be able to contribute meaningfully to their world. They say ‘an hungry man is an angry man’; OROL has to an extent reduced the number of angry and hungry people by being there for them.
